Weekly Snapshot: The Power of Human Connection

The internet is wonderful. The virtual reality we live and operate in is exquisite but has taken away the personal element that defines our human connection. We have many conversations online daily, yet all our words and sentences are soul-deprived.

Now, what do I mean by that?

Here is my observation: people are very different in text versus in person. Text communication lacks visual and auditory cues, making it challenging to accurately assess tone, emotions, and empathy in the sender's messages. Some might argue that it is an art to master, but I think it is overrated. On the other hand, physical interactions have always left a sweet aftertaste - even when they did not go in my favor. We are different in person - open, empathetic, and approachable.

I have noticed this shift in every person I have met. People who were weird or sounded rude online were the opposite offline. The business dealings were fun, and the communication was more effective.

I think it is also how we read too much into things, especially when they are on a screen or a piece of paper. Words - alone - lack emotions. It is how we read them and perceive them that determines how we feel about them. It is a little different in person.

In-person, emotions, and body language become supplementary information to guide us on what to feel and how to respond. I think, in general, humans are naturally good at it. It also explains why we can resolve issues in person versus online.

There is some magic in face-to-face interaction. My suggestion: increase face time. Meet people in person. It is a superior way of interaction.
